What are the guest cabins like?

The guest cabins are very spacious and sleep 2 guests. The cabins are cleaned daily. The cabins are air conditioned and have a large fan. There is a front and back porch with a drying rack for wet clothes. Inside there is a main room with two double beds and a mini fridge which is stocked daily with drinks and water. The bathroom is large and well designed making it easy to share with your fishing partner. The cabins have hot and cold running water, flushing toilets, and plenty of storage for your belongings. The hot water is provided by solar panels. The rooms do not have blow dryers. Soap is provided upon arrival. Please bring shampoo.

Will I get my own cabin?

If you’d like your own cabin the cost is around $1,000 extra depending on availability.

Regularly priced fishing packages include a shared cabin and shared boat. Each cabin and bathroom are spacious and well designed to make it easy to share with your fishing partner.

What is the daily fishing schedule like at the lodge?

Coffee is available around 6 a.m. in the lodge. Breakfast will be served around 7 a.m. You will be responsible for making your own lunch each morning before or after you have breakfast. A sandwich bar will be set out to make your own lunch. Please take your lunch with you after breakfast to put in your guide’s cooler. Your guide will have water and drinks for you in the cooler. You will spend six days fishing different river channels, inland lakes and lagoons. Each guide specializes in one or two particular zones or beats. If you decide to switch fishing partners during the week there is a chance you will fish the same zone twice. If you do not want to fish the same zone twice it is important to keep the same fishing partner throughout the week. Each morning at the dock you will give your guide your rods and lunch. Please keep your flies, tippet and leaders handy for your guide. After fishing each day you will return back to the lodge for drinks, appetizers and swimming. Dinner is served around 7 p.m. each night. Please place your dirty laundry in the hamper before dinner. They will pick up your dirty laundry during dinner time each night. You will get your clothes returned the next day after fishing.

Is there anything I can bring for the guides and camp that would be appreciated?

If you feel like you want to bring something, guides love things like tool kits, pliers, polarized glasses, etc.. Other ideas are t-shirts, toys, candy, small snacks and hats.

Do I need an adapter for my electronics?

The lodge runs on a diesel generator supplying standard 110 volt electricity from 5 pm to 9 am daily. Both 2 and 3 prong work similar to the American system. It is fine to charge your electronic devices w/o an adapter.

You will need an adapter for the airport and hotel in Manaus.

How do gratuities work at the lodge?

We suggest a tip of 10% -15% of the package price for the lodge staff and guides. $1,000 – $1,500 per week per person. Tips are split evenly among the guides and support staff. Tips are left to the discretion of the angler. The lodge manager, Carlos will collect the tips on Friday evening from each guest around dinner time. Please bring US Dollars. NEW $100 dollar bills only please. The older $100 dollar bills are NOT accepted in Brazil. Cash only is accepted at the lodge for the gratuities and fly shop items purchased at the lodge.

Will I fish the same zones each day?

Is transportation in Manaus included in the package price?

Included in the package price:
We are responsible for picking you up upon arrival in Manaus, taking you to the charter the following morning, and transferring you upon the return of your week of fishing either to your hotel or the international airport.

If you transfer to your hotel after the week of fishing, it will be your responsibility to get to the airport. Taxis or private cars can be arranged at the hotel. Transportation in Manaus for a large or small group to dinner from the hotel. We will gladly take you to a hotel after your fishing week is over from the charter, but the transfer from that hotel back to the international airport will be at your own expense.

Is there a laundry service at the Lodge?

There is a daily laundry service provided. We will pick up your dirty laundry during dinner time each night. You will get your clothes returned the next day after fishing.  You do not need to overpack clothes for this trip. You need to bring 2 or 3 fishing shirts and pants max for this trip.

Is the Agua Boa Amazon Lodge a good trip for a beginner?

The Agua Boa is an ideal place to learn how to fly fish because there are so many fish to be caught.   As a beginner you will be rewarded very quickly. Our guides will teach you how to catch fish, and love to help new anglers.

Do I need to bring my own flies?

Yes.  Please bring your own flies, tippet and leaders.  Please keep your flies, tippet and leaders handy for your guide each day on the boat.  The guide will return your items at the end of each fishing day.  If you feel like you are getting low on flies during your stay Carlos has a fly shop with flies for purchase.

How is the wading on the Agua Boa?

The wading on the Agua Boa is a great way to fish. Anglers can wade the sand bars in pursuit of the cruising peacocks. There are a good number of freshwater stingrays in the river, so you should keep your eyes peeled when you wade. They are generally very easy to see.

What weight rod do I need to bring?

Most guests use an 8 or 9 weight rod.  A 10 weight is not necessary unless you would like to catch a Pirarucu.  A spey rod isn’t ideal for this trip.

The Agua Boa does not allow spin rods.

Can I rent a rod at the lodge?

The lodge has loaner rods and reels, but it’s a good idea to bring your own. If you borrow a lodge rod please bring a new fishing line for the loaner rod.

You should bring 1 or 2 rods for this trip.

What if I arrive in Manaus a day early?

If you have extra time in Manaus we’d be happy to arrange a city tour for you. You can either book it ahead of time, or let Lucio know upon arrival in Manaus. He will arrange for an English speaking/ certified tour guide to meet you at your hotel. The cost is about $130 per person which includes a full day tour, ground transportation, a river boat tour, lunch on the river. US Cash is accepted and collected before the tour. They do not accept older $100 bills in Brazil so please make sure it’s a newer bill. You will spend most of the day on a boat so pack a small dry back with a rain jacket, bug spray or wipes, a bottle of water and a little cash for the market. You will be able to buy gifts at the market. Please tip your tour guide at the end of the day.

How long is the flight from Flores Airport in Manaus to the Lodge?

You will depart your hotel in Manaus before sunrise.  The lodge van will take you to the Flores Airport, a small private airport in Manaus.

You will wait in the lounge area of the airport while they load the plane with your belongings.  Keep your carry-on with you so you have it on the charter flight.  You might want to pack a bottle of water for the charter flight.

You will depart from Flores Airport at sunrise for the lodge and the flight is approximately 1.5 hours. We try to depart at sunrise to get the guests to the lodge early. The planes can’t leave before sunrise.

After your week of fishing you will return to Flores Airport in Manaus.  Lucio will meet you and take you to your hotel or the international airport in the lodge van.

Are there mosquitoes at the Lodge?

You are unlikely to see mosquitoes at the lodge. Insect repellent is advisable to protect against the “no-seeums”, especially early in the morning and in the evening. We suggest bringing individually packaged OFF wipes to keep in your pocket. You are more likely to see mosquitoes in Manaus so please consider keeping the OFF wipes handy in Manaus.  You can tuck your fishing pants into your socks to prevent no-seeum bites.

Is the flight from Manaus to the Lodge included in the package?

Yes, the flight from Manaus to the Lodge early on Saturday morning, and the return flight the following Saturday morning from the Lodge to Manaus are included in the package.

Does the lodge have internet?

If you need to be in touch with someone 24/7 renting a satellite phone might be the best option. There is no cellular service at the lodge. The lodge has Wifi and you can update the settings on your phone for Wifi calling, but during the day while you are fishing you will be off-line. The Wifi at the lodge will allow you to text and communicate while you are away just fine. The lodge has Starlink for Internet.

We recommend downloading WhatsApp on your phone prior to departure. You and your family members will both need to download the App prior to your trip. You can text, call or video chat from this App during your stay.

Am I able to place a liquor order prior to departure?

No, beer and wine are provided as part of the package price. If you would like any alcohol other than wine and beer, please tuck it away in your personal belongings and bring it with you from Manaus or home. You can purchase liquor at the duty free store on your way to Manaus.

Do I need vaccinations for this trip?

Please make an appointment with your doctor prior to leaving for the necessary booster shots, vaccination recommendations and prescription medications for your trip.
