Hi Folks and welcome back to the Agua Boa Amazon Lodge Fishing Report. We have officially been open one month now, and what a season it has been so far! In last week’s installment of the Report we, as always, highlighted the great fishing and also made note of the stunning nature that anglers experience whilst they are on the Agua Boa River. In addition, we celebrated some of the excellent bird photos that Kevin Lynch took of a bird commonly known as the Kingfisher.
The Amazon Rainforest is home to five different varieties of Kingfisher. We see three different species along the Agua Boa River. In the Portuguese language there are several common names for the Kingfisher including, Papa-Peixe, Guarda- Rios and Martim-Pescador. Why are we highlighting the Kingfisher? Well they are more than just a gorgeous bird, they are the mascot representing two of the Booking Agents that have filled the lodge this year, half our guests thus far. Week one we had a group from Mavungana Fly-Fishing. Mavungana is the Zulu word for Kingfisher. Then Last week we had Frans Jansen owner of Martin-Pescador Lodge in Chile, once again bring a group to join us at the Agua Boa Amazon Lodge.
Cheers to Kingfishers and thanks for the great groups!!! As reported the last couple of weeks, the river had more or less maintained its level. However last week we witnessed a considerable drop, totaling over a foot by week’s end. The good news is that throughout the drop last week we still had great Popper fishing, catching an abundance of Paca in the 4 to 9-pound range. The better news is that due to the drop in the water we are starting to have more and more sight fishing. In fact, it didn’t take long for Frans and fishing buddy Scott Kiscaden to figure out that the river was the place to be, they took full advantage of sight casting to cruising fish over the sand. As we look forward towards Thanksgiving the weather forecast shows that there is rain in our future here at the Agua Boa Amazon Lodge. However, we project that with the water levels as they are now, that the forecasted rain will not have any measurable effect on the fishability of the Agua Boa River.
